Ferns
I love ferns
I love the fractal shape of the leaves, I love how they look before they unfurl.
I love using them in my work, both in rings and other jewellery.
Here’s a photo of me trying to do a cute photoshoot and getting surprised at the fact that the ferns turned out to be taller than me.
This was a fun project in silver. I started by sketching the idea, drawing a fern outline that I scanned, resized and printed. I glued it onto a sheet of silver that I had already textured using dried leaves, and drilled holes in the pattern so my sawblade could fit through and I could saw out the shape.
I engraved more veins in the leaves, hammered the fern a bit to make it less flat. I added some scrollwork, and chains, with a little kite shaped labradorite at the back.
I later altered this from being a body chain, to just being a pendant, without the chains and labradorite.
